The Richmond police are investigating a culpable homicide case following a collision between a truck and a light motor vehicle on the N1 road outside of Richmond on Thursday

The Richmond police are investigating a culpable homicide case where a collision between a truck and a light motor vehicle on the N1 road outside of Richmond, claimed the lives of two people while three others were left critically injured on December 19.

SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said a 61 year old man and a 16 year old girl died in the accident on Thursday.

“Preliminary investigations indicates that the driver of the truck was travelling from the direction of Hanover/Richmond. The light motor vehicle apparently veered out of its lane and collided with the oncoming truck.”

He stated that two occupants of the light motor vehicle , a 58 year old woman and a 10 year old boy as well as the 53 year old truck driver were transported to the De Aar hospital for medical treatment.

“They are in a critical but stable condition. The police are appealing to road users to adhere to road safety rules and to stay alert, avoid driver fatigue and distractions,” Sam said.
