Two die in mob justice

Roodepan police investigating two charges of murder

TWO MEN who were suspected of breaking into at a shanty in Jerusalem in Roodepan were killed in an act of mob justice during the early hours of Monday morning.

Police spokesperson, Captain Bashoabile Kale, said the owner of the shanty was not at home at the time of the incident, which occurred between 3am and 5am.

“Neighbours questioned the 23 and 33-year-old suspects who claimed that they were family members. However there were signs of forced entry.”

He added that when community members were unable to verify whether they were in fact family members of the shack owner, they proceeded to beat them with sticks.

“The deceased sustained multiple injuries. A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”

Kale stated that the suspects were involved in other criminal activity in the area.

“No formal charges were opened during the previous incidents although they were hospitalised after they were also assaulted.”

He indicated that the Roodepan police are investigating two charges of murder.

“No arrests have been made yet.”
