TWO MEN were arrested in Hartswater after they were found in the unlawful possession of four home-made firearms and ammunition on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said that members of the Hartswater K9, Highway Patrol and Crime Prevention units searched a house in Anderson Street in Hartswater, where they found four home-made firearms, including shotguns and handguns, and ammunition.
“These firearms were found in the living area and in the suspects’ bedrooms. The suspects were also in possession of sketch plans to construct firearms, as well as nitrocellulose (gun powder).”
Tawana stated that the suspects were charged for being in contravention of the Firearm Control Act 60 of 2000 for possession of prohibited firearms and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
“The suspects are expected to appear in the Hartswater Magistrate’s Court soon.”
The Francis Baard district commissioner, Major-General Johan Bean, commended the police members who were involved in the arrest of the suspects.
