Two arrested for alleged possession of stolen ammunition, guns

Police said the arrest of the one suspect led to the arrest of the other.

TWO MEN are facing charges after allegedly being found in the possession of stolen ammunition and guns in two separate incidents on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock said the suspects were arrested by Barkly West police.

“The Barkly West Visible Police and the Kimberley Tactical Response Team (TRT) followed-up on information and arrested a male suspect with jewellery and a .7.65 Bareta and ammunition that was allegedly stolen at a house in Barkly West on December 24, 2020,” Kock said.

He added that another suspect was arrested for possession of a 9mm firearm.

“The arrest of the first suspect led to the arrest of a second suspect who was also found in possession of an alleged stolen 9mm firearm. Both men are expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court soon,” he said.

Kock said the investigation team was commended for the arrest.

“The Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Johan Bean commended the members for their diligence and vigilant reaction that led to the arrest of the suspects during the ongoing Festive Season Operations,” he said.
