Accused is also accused of trying to stab a police officer who wanted to arrest him on a rape charge
THE TRIAL of a Prieska man, who is facing three counts of rape, two counts of housebreaking and one count each of assault and obstructing a police officer in performance of his duties, continued in the Northern Cape High Court yesterday.
Shaun Rooi is accused of raping two women and a 10-year-old girl last year, as well as attempting to stab a police officer when he tried to arrest him.
The State alleges that Rooi raped a 55-year-old woman at her home in Plakkerskamp in Prieska on April 1, 2017.
It is alleged that the accused gained entry into the house of the woman and she woke up after feeling someone touching her upper body. He undressed and raped the woman. When she screamed for help, he stabbed her in her hand with a knife and fled.
The accused then allegedly raped a 40-year-old woman at her home, also in Plakkerskamp, the next day, on April 2, 2017.
He allegedly also stabbed and robbed a man the same night.
The third count of rape involves an incident which occurred on November 19, 2017, where the accused allegedly lured a 10-year-old girl to his house and raped her anally.
Rooi is also accused of trying to stab a police officer who wanted to arrest him on a rape charge.
Rooi apparently pulled out a knife and stabbed in the direction of the officer several times but missed. He then apparently ran into the veld and disappeared amongst the bushes.
The trial continues.
