Triple murder accused due back in court on May 23

TRIPLE murder accused Sandile Vaaibooi, 34, will return to the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court on May 23.

He was charged with the murder of his uncle, Patrick Vaaibooi, and Angelina Kgatlane, as well as a relative who was a member of the SAPS.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said Vaaibooi made a brief appearance in the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 25.

“It is alleged that the accused forcefully entered the home of his uncle, Patrick Vaaibooi, and Angelina Kgatlane. It is further alleged that the accused began attacking the couple and after killing them both the accused visited another relative on the other side of town, a member of the South African Police Service, whom he also attacked. He (the SAPS member) was severely injured and later died in hospital,” said Senokoatsane.

He added that Vaaibooi allegedly continued to damage property and vehicles after attacking his victims.

“The accused was later arrested by members of the South African Police Service in Barkly West. He is facing three counts of murder and assault, as well as malicious property damage.

“The case was remanded to May 23, 2022, in the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court. The accused remains in custody while police investigations are continuing.”
