Top cops host community imbizo in Windsorton

THE ACTING provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Major-General Luntu Ngubelanga, alongside the Frances Baard district commissioner, Major-General Charlotte Makgari, hosted a community imbizo in Windsorton on Wednesday.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the event, which was held at Hebron Park Community Hall, saw a significant turnout of community members and officials.

The gathering was graced by the presence of several high-ranking officials, including the deputy provincial commissioner of Corporate Support Services, Major-General Thabo Mphuti, the acting district commissioner, Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana, and the station commander of Windsorton. Provincial heads, senior managers, and local government representatives such as the mayor of Dikgatlong Municipality, Councillor Tshwanagae, and ward councillor Kenny Jacobs were also in attendance.

The Provincial CPF board chairperson, Tebogo Molapo, and the acting Frances Baard District CPF chairperson, Shaun Brandt, were also present. Representatives from various departments, including Education, Social Development, Justice and Home Affairs, as well as the Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Board, also participated in the event.

The event began with an opening devotion delivered by Chaplain Shupinyaneng from the Frances Baard District office. Following this, Councillor Tshwanagae welcomed the audience to the imbizo, setting a positive tone for the proceedings.

Major-General Makgari outlined the purpose of the engagement, emphasising the importance of community involvement and collaboration. She introduced the panellists from various departments and entities, including SAPS nanagement, the Department of Education, the Department of Social Development, the Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Board, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and the Community Policing Forum.

In his address, Major-General Ngubelanga extended apologies on behalf of the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, who is currently on leave. Ngubelanga highlighted the significance of Operation Shanela, a high-density operation aimed at reducing crime across the Province. He urged community members to actively participate in various community structures to collectively combat crime.

Ngubelanga commended the community leadership for their maturity and initiative in facilitating the recent engagement in Windsorton. During the session, community members had the opportunity to voice their concerns and issues to the panellists, who responded directly to the relevant stakeholders.

The imbizo concluded with a vote of thanks from ward councillor Jacobs.

Sergeant Shemane said these community engagements are ongoing throughout the Province’s five districts, providing a platform for communities to interact with government entities, discuss issues, and find amicable solutions.

Next week, on August 28, Major-General Ngubelanga will meet with the community of Mothibistad in the JTG district.
