COMMUNITY members retrieved the body of a toddler near a water-filled dumping site in Valspan on Wednesday.

Jan Kempdorp community members said they had been searching for three-year-old Botlhale Lyolo Gedene since he went missing on June 28.

A relative stated on Wednesday that the body had been positively identified.

Botlhale was last seen leaving home to play with his three-year-old niece in front of their house in Valspan.

Some community members believe that his body was dumped at the site after he was murdered.

“We stay far away from where his body was found and he never goes to play in that area.”

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the body of a boy was found near a dumping site in Valspan, in a pool of drain water, on Wednesday.

“At this stage, we cannot confirm if the body is that of the boy who was reported missing late in June this year. The body is yet to be formally identified. An autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of his death,” said Tawana.

He added that no arrests had been made in connection with the matter.

“The investigation continues.”
