TITLE DEEDS will be handed to residents of Hantam Municipality in Nieuwoudtville during a virtual ceremony on Mandela Day, July 18, 2021.

Approximately 26 title deeds will be handed over by Northern Cape MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta), Bentley Vass.

Spokesperson for the department, Lerato Khunou said the ceremony will be conducted virtually due to the Covid-19 regulations under the National Level 4 lockdown.

“Level 4 Covid-19 regulations prohibit mass gatherings. The MEC will read the names of the beneficiaries during the virtual event and thereafter the leadership of both the district and local municipalities will hand deliver the documents to the rightful land owners.

“Since the pandemic hit our shores, we have been forced to adopt new ways of doing things. Helping, however, cannot be stopped by the pandemic.

“We will be celebrating Mandela Day using our virtual platforms. Against all odds, we will celebrate the great legend while also observing the country’s regulations,” said Khunou.

The virtual event will start at 12pm on July 18.
