A 60-YEAR-old suspect and his two alleged accomplices, aged 27 and 29, were arrested after the Pella police found suspected stolen property and dagga with an estimated street value of more than R24,600 in their possession.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the suspects were arrested after the police followed up on information regarding a burglary.

“On Tuesday, August 20, at 3.40pm, the station commander of the Pella police, Captain Marius Rispel, accompanied by two shift members, Constable Adonis Moeketsi and Constable Amanda Koopman, followed up on information regarding a burglary that was reported in Pella. The information was operationalised and a 26-year-old suspect was traced and arrested for housebreaking and theft,” said Shemane.

“The suspect led the police to the house where he allegedly sold the stolen items. Upon arrival at the identified house, the police discovered suspected stolen items, including a flat-screen television, a decoder and two remote controls as well as dagga and money.

“A 60-year-old man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and dealing in dagga. An additional two suspects, aged 27 and 29, were arrested after dagga was found in their possession. The dagga had an estimated street value of R24,660 and was confiscated. Cash believed to be the proceeds of crime was also confiscated.”

Shemane added that the team was commended for the arrests.

“The Namakwa District management, under the leadership of Brigadier Schalk Andrews, applauded the team for their rapid response in tracing and arresting the suspects.

“The police are appealing to communities to reject and report stolen property. Buying and selling stolen property is a criminal offence punishable by law,” warned Shemane.
