Three suspects arrested for robbery in Kathu

Three men were arrested for allegedly robbing a truck driver in Kathu and will appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon.

THREE men were arrested for allegedly robbing a truck driver in Kathu of his cellphone, which is valued at R6 000.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said members of the Kathu Crime Prevention unit caught the three suspects after they allegedly robbed the truck driver of his Huawei P9 cellphone.

“The police were conducting patrols in the greater Kathu area on December 16, when, at 8.20pm, Sergeant Ben Eiman and constables Blythe Jantjies and Beatrice Cachibatho apprehended three males after they allegedly robbed a truck driver in the parking area of the Kameeldoring cafe,” said Gamieldien.

She added that the cellphone, which is valued at R6 000, was recovered and handed over to the rightful owner.

Gamieldien said that the suspects, who are 24, 26 and 27 years old respectively, were arrested and charged with robbery. “They will appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon.”
