THREE suspects have been arrested by the Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Organised Crime Detectives, Gauteng Crime Intelligence and Johannesburg Metro police following a recent house robbery in Moghul Park, Kimberley.

During the incident that took place on December 20 last year, the owner and his wife were woken up at about 8am by five armed robbers – four males and a female.

The couple were severely assaulted and tied up, while a firearm and a substantial amount of cash were stolen from the safe.

A 35-year-old male suspect was fatally injured during a shoot-out after the local neighbourhood watch came to the couple’s assistance, while a 30-year-old bystander was injured.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said on Tuesday that two Zimbabwean nationals and a suspect from Gauteng were arrested in Johannesburg recently in connection with the armed robbery.

“The suspects appeared in court on January 24 and the case was postponed until January 28 for a formal bail application,” said Kock.

He added that the police also confiscated a Ford Ranger bakkie that was allegedly used in the commission of a crime.

The police arrested a 37-year old Malawian national on January 11 in Johannesburg in connection with the incident after he was found in possession of a motor vehicle that was allegedly hijacked in the Eastern Cape.

“Anyone with information can call Detective Lieutenant-Colonel Doggie Magugu on 082469 0578. The investigation continues,” said Kock.
