THREE men who were convicted of stealing a Toyota Hilux and poisoning the dogs of the vehicle owner were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Danielskuil Magistrate’s Court.

Upington SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said the vehicle was stolen on September 23, 2021.

“The dogs were poisoned in Lime Acres. The police later recovered the vehicle that was reported as stolen, in Biesiesvlei,” said Masegela.

“The accused, Jaime Baloyi, 25, Totos Chauque, 35 and Nicolas Sambo, 53, were found guilty of motor vehicle theft and were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”

Masegela added that in another incident, a Zimbabwean national, Collin Muchenje, 36, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for his involvement in the hijacking of a DAF truck with trailers in Danielskuil on May 5, 2022.

“The accused was found in possession of the truck in Howick.”

Masegela said that Muchenje was also handed a two-year sentence for being an undocumented immigrant.
