Three men arrested for allegedly tampering with cellphone tower

Three men were arrested by the Mothibistad police for allegedly tampering with a Vodacom cellphone tower.

THREE men were arrested by the Mothibistad police for allegedly tampering with a Vodacom cellphone tower.

Police spokesperson Captain Masimaneotsile Letsapa said the suspects, who are aged between 29 and 42 years old, were arrested after a complaint was received.

“The suspects were arrested at Magojaneng outside Mothibistad on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 3pm,” said Letsapa.

“After receiving a complaint from Vodacom about people busy tampering with a Vodacom tower, police members of Mothibistad, Kuruman and Kuruman POP quickly responded to the complaint.

“Upon further investigation at the scene, three male foreign nationals were arrested after being found with housebreaking implements including a grinder, spanners, extension cords, a battery and fire extinguishers.

“A white Ford Ranger double cab was also seized as it is believed to have been utilised in the commission of a crime.”

Letsapa added that the police members were lauded for apprehending the suspects.

“The acting JTG district commander, Brigadier Johnny Besnaar, commended the members for their swift reaction that led to the arrests and confiscations.

“All three suspects will appear in the Mothibistad Magistrate Court on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, on charges of tampering with essential infrastructure.”
