A 55-YEAR-old man was arrested by the Upington SAPS Crime Prevention unit after he was found in possession of suspected stolen goods.

Upington police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said two other suspects were also arrested on charges of housebreaking and theft.

“Members of the unit followed up on information after a police storeroom was broken into and five tyres with an estimated value of R5,700 were stolen over the Easter weekend,” said Masegela.

“Preliminary investigations led to a residence where the tyres were allegedly sold. The 55-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and the other two male suspects, aged 35 and 37 years old, were arrested on charges of housebreaking and theft. The suspects were arrested on April 19, 2022.”

Masegela added that the acting station commander of Upington SAPS urged the community to reject and report stolen goods as buying or accepting stolen goods constitutes a crime.
