THREE foreign nationals are set to re-appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after making a brief appearance on Monday following their arrests by the Hawks for dealing in drugs.

The trio – Chiemeria Miracle Ezungwu, 29, Chigozie Samuel Iberu, 40, and Kingsley Chijioke Nwauwa, 43 – were arrested by the Hawks’ Kuruman-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, assisted by Kuruman Highway Patrol, the K9 unit and the Local Criminal Record Centre.

The arrests and subsequent court appearance on Monday emanate from a disruptive operation held by the team after monitoring the identified properties and movements of the suspects for some time.

Hawks spokesperson for the Northern Cape, Captain Tebogo Thebe said two houses in Kathu were searched and the team found an assortment of drugs, including mandrax, tik and dagga, with an estimated street value of R10,000.

Thebe added that the team also confiscated two weighing scales, glass pipes and R5,030 in cash, which is believed to be the proceeds of crime.

He said the team further found a large quantity of alcohol that was also seized for not adhering to the national liquor regulations.

The third accused, Nwauwa, received a R1,500 fine.
