THE DELPORTSHOOP police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after three people died in an accident involving four vehicles on the R31 Delportshoop bridge on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the incident occurred after one of the vehicles tried unsuccessfully to overtake a truck.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that a vehicle driving in the direction of Ulco overtook a truck but failed to do so due to oncoming traffic. This apparently resulted in a pile-up with two other vehicles and the truck,” said Sam.

“The Barkly West emergency services declared three persons deceased on the scene, while five passengers were injured and transported to the Barkly West Hospital. The road was closed to allow crime scene experts and pathology forensics to clear the scene.

“Police investigations are continuing.”
