Three young people involved in “horrific” accident near Lime Acres.
THREE people were killed when a train crashed into a bakkie at the Arriesfontein train crossing outside Lime Acres on Sunday.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock said the incident occurred when the bakkie apparently tried to cross the railway line.
“The 24-year-old male driver of the bakkie, Jesse Isemonger, and two female passengers, 22-year-old Tersia van der Merwe and 24-year-old Sarah Niewoudt, all died on the scene,” said Kock.
“The police in Lime Acres are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the incident. Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact Detective Sergeant Nicholas Dube on 079 878 3879. The investigation continues.”
The DA in the Northern Cape sent its condolences to the families of the deceased.
“The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Northern Cape is saddened by the tragic death of three young people who were involved in a horrific accident on the road outside of Lime Acres on the weekend. The accident occurred when the bakkie they were travelling in crashed into an oncoming train,” said DA Member of Parliament Delmain Christians.
“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. Our prayers and thoughts are with them all in this difficult time.”
