THE RICHMOND police have opened an inquest docket after three young children, aged 10, six and four, died in a shanty fire at Richmond Plakkerskamp.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said a mother and her four children were asleep inside the shanty when the fire broke out.
“On Monday, at approximately 11pm, the mother and her four children were asleep when a fire broke out in the shack. The mother managed to escape with a two-year-old boy. The other three children, two girls and a boy, died on the scene,” said Kock.
“The exact cause of the fire is unknown. Anyone with information can call Detective Constable Rodney Julies on 082 302 0371. The investigation continues.”
