According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane, the team, which includes various stakeholders, has been conducting disruptive actions and high-visibility patrols around the illegal mining area in Kleinzee.

During a recent operation in the Bontekooi informal settlement, the team conducted stop-and-searches and apprehended three men found in possession of suspected illegal mining implements.

The suspects were arrested and charged with possession of illegal mining equipment and contravention of immigration laws, as two of them were discovered to be in the country illegally.
