THE PUBLIC Servants Association (PSA) has called for security to be beefed up at the Department of Home Affairs offices in Galeshewe following a break-in at the premises on Tuesday.

PSA provincial manager Steve Ledibane said staff members do not feel safe at their workplace, despite it being situated next to a police station.

“There are mostly women employed at this office, while the security guard only works day shifts,” Ledibane pointed out.

He added that items that were stolen included a webcam, while the alarm system was vandalised and is currently out of order.

“It appears as if no confidential documents or ID books or passports were taken during the incident,” said Ledibane.

“The department should make an arrangement that the police patrol the area at night or employ security on a 24-hour basis. Staff were left standing outside the premises without any management assistance on Tuesday. This is the second break-in that has occurred at these offices.”

The Department of Home Affairs stated that it would “respond in due course” to media enquiries.

The police said that, at the time of publication, no criminal cases had been opened.
