Teenager sentenced to five years for raping 13-year-old girl

The girl tried to run away, but the boy caught her and raped her.

A MAN who raped a 13-year-old girl when he was 14 has been sentenced to five years imprisonment in the Mothibistad regional court on January 25.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien on Friday said the 13-year-old girl was on her way home from school in the Makhubung Village in the Mothibistad area on February 12 2016 at 12.30pm when the incident occured.

“The girl and her school friends went to Voldraai to collect clay for a school project when the accused approached her and told her that her mother owed him money. The accused told her to accompany him.”

She added that on the way home, the accused started fondling the victim.

“She ran away but was caught by the accused. He grabbed her undressed and raped her in the veld. He then fled and the victim reported the incident to her mother and the boy was arrested.”

The commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit in Kuruman Captain Caren Nel commended the investigating officer Sergeant Matshidisho Boikanyo for his assistance in securing the incarceration of the perpetrator.
