Teen murder accused due in court for unrelated assault case

The 18-year-old Galeshewe teenager who is facing a murder charge after he allegedly stabbed another teen to death is due to appear in court for an unrelated case of assault.

THE 18-YEAR-old Galeshewe teenager who is facing a murder charge after he allegedly stabbed another teen to death is due to appear in court for an unrelated case of assault.

Jemaine Long, 18, made a brief appearance in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, May 2 for the murder of 16-year-old Toma Raad.

Raad was fatally stabbed in front of his home in Santa Zone 2, Galeshewe, on Saturday. Long was arrested later that same day.

The case was postponed until Monday, May 8 for a formal bail hearing.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said preliminary investigations revealed that an 18-year-old male suspect was involved in an argument with a female who lived in the same street.

“He ran home to fetch a knife and upon returning for the female, he instead fatally stabbed a bystander who was standing in front of his home yard,” said Sam.

Long is also set to appear before the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court for an unrelated case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on Friday, May 5.
