THE KURUMAN Regional Court has found a local teacher, Allan Charles Reed, 58, guilty of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old pupil.

Reed was sentenced on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, to six years direct imprisonment, with two years suspended for five years.

The assault happened on February 15, 2015 in a classroom when the victim went to Reed for assistance as her teacher.

Reed put his arm around the victim, kissed her and put his hand inside the girl’s underwear.

The victim cried and ran away to report the matter to another teacher.

The matter was reported to the Police on 20 February and Reed was arrested on February 23, 2015.

Reed was granted bail, although the state opposed it.

The court declared him unfit to possess a firearm, and his name will be entered into the National Register of Sexual offenders.

The FCS Provincial Head in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended the Kuruman FCS Commander, Captain Caren Nel, for her commitment and hard work on the case.
