THE FIVE suspects who were taken in for questioning in connection with the fatal shooting of Marhoom Shahien Richards in Kimberley on Monday were released on Wednesday.

Richards was shot in the face during what is believed to have been a house robbery at his West End home. His wife and child were found tied up.

He had reportedly just arrived at his home from mosque when he was shot in his driveway.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Dikeledi Gopane confirmed the release and indicated that the five suspects could not be linked to the shooting.

Gopane said that no one could identify them positively during the identity parade.

According to the police, they were led to a shack by eyewitnesses who claimed to have seen the suspects flee there following the shooting.

Several neighbours indicated that they heard a gunshot but thought it was fireworks.

Richards was buried on Tuesday at the Muslim Cemetery in MacDougal Street.
