A LESOTHO national who was travelling in a taxi from Kimberley to Douglas was arrested on Tuesday evening after he was found in possession of dagga weighing 5.476 kilograms.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said members of the Visible Policing unit in Douglas acted on a tip-off and immediately set up a vehicle checkpoint on the road between Kimberley and Douglas.

“The taxi in which the alleged suspect was travelling was stopped at the vehicle checkpoint. Upon searching the taxi, a black bag was found stashed with compressed dagga and the owner of the bag was immediately arrested,” said Tawana.

He added that the suspect was expected to appear in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of dealing in dagga.
