The areas that were affected by this incident includes Jacksonville, White City area, Sunset Manor, Roodepan Police station and surrounding areas.
TWO suspected cable thieves have been injured after sustaining burn wounds while they were apparently busy vandalising and stealing cables from the Roodepan cemetery mini sub-station.
Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson, Thoko Riet said the suspects are in hospital receiving medical assistance.
“The suspects are currently in hospital under police custody,” said Riet.
She thanked all roleplayers for assisting in apprehending the alleged suspects.
“We want to thank the public and the electrical team for their prompt reaction in tracking the suspects,” she said.
Riet said the incident has left many areas without power.
“The areas that were affected by this incident includes Jacksonville, White City area, Sunset Manor, Roodepan Police station and surrounding areas. Cable theft is a huge problem and we urge our community members to report any suspicious activities at the sub-stations to the nearest law authorities. We urge community members to guard and look after municipal infrastructure. Our electricians will replace and repair damaged cables and vaults to restore electricity,” Riet said.
