Suspect linked to three cash-in-transit heists appears in court

The accused was arrested in Pampierstad on Tuesday after he was linked to three cash in transit robberies that took place in Kuruman and Pampierstad during 2018.

A SUSPECT, Thapelo Sithonga, 39, who is linked to three cash-in-transit heists, appeared in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court on Thursday December 10.

The suspect was arrested in Pampierstad on Tuesday after he was linked to three cash in transit robberies that took place in Kuruman and Pampierstad during 2018.

Hawks provincial spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, said the suspect was facing three counts of armed robbery.

She stated that two Fidelity security officers were approached by six armed suspects at the Price chain wholesale in Kuruman on January 4 2018.

“The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

“Meanwhile, on October 9 2018, three Fidelity security officers were disarmed by six armed suspects as they were collecting cash at Chicken-Inn fast food in Kuruman. The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money.”

Mnisi added that during another incident in Pampierstad, three security officials were robbed an undisclosed amount of money by six suspects.

“One security was shot in the leg during this robbery that took place at the shopping complex in Pampierstad on December 13 2018.”

She said the case against Sithonga was remanded until December 14 to allow him to secure legal representation.

“The accused will remain in custody.”
