A MAN was arrested in Prieska after he was found in possession of stolen property – including groceries, a chainsaw, a grinder, a drill machine and other electrical tools – worth over R18,000

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said a vigilant community member spotted the suspect walking out of a premises on 5th Avenue on Tuesday, at around 2pm, and immediately alerted the local station commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Ndou, about the suspected housebreaking incident.

“The police members reacted promptly to the alert and a suspect matching the description was cornered as he was walking through the park. He was found in possession of break-in implements and more than R18,000 worth of stolen property,” said Tawana.

He added that the owner of the property was not home at the time of the incident. “She was, however, contacted and positively identified the property.”

Tawana said the suspect was arrested and was expected to appear in the Prieska Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of residential burglary.
