A SUSPECT was arrested in connection with tampering with electrical infrastructure where large areas of Galeshewe were plunged into darkness on May 12.

Sergeant Timothy Sam said the Kagisho police were investigating two cases of tampering with infrastructure and an alleged break-in at Phutanang power station.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailants gained entry to the Phuthanang Sol Plaatje municipality power station and tampered with electrical infrastructure that plunged Galeshewe and surrounding areas into darkness on Thursday.”

He added that the case was transferred to the Organised Crime Investigations unit (Trio Crimes) for further investigation.

“One suspect is in police custody and briefly appeared in court on Friday, May 13. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance.”

The police requested anyone who could assist with the investigation to contact Lieutenant Colonel Magugu on 082 469 0578 or 0860 10111 or via the MYSAPS App.

“All information will be treated confidentially. The investigation continues,” Sam said.
