THE HAWKS Serious Organised Crime Investigation team arrested a 28-year-old suspect for business robbery after an amount of around R230,000 was stolen from the Mankurwane Post Office on Monday.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Tebogo Thebe said that two unknown suspects entered a Post Office branch in Mankurwane, Vergenoeg early on Monday.

Thebe said the suspects allegedly pointed what looked like a firearm at employees and stole an estimated amount of R230,000.

“Community members followed the suspects and managed to apprehend one of the suspects at a nearby house, not far from the crime scene. The suspect was found with an amount of R110,000 in his possession,” said Thebe.

Northern Cape DPCI provincial head Major-General Kholekile Galawe commended the community members for their assistance.

Galawe added that when the community and police work together, the result is of mutual benefit and it is appreciated.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Hawks are still on the trail of the second suspect and the investigation continues.
