Suspect arrested after woman gang raped in toilet

One out of four wanted rape suspects was arrested in Barkly West on Monday following the gang rape of a 21-year-old woman in a toilet in Mataleng.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said that a 42-year-old male suspect was apprehended in Morape Street in Mataleng at around 4.20pm.

“Sergeant Moilwa, Sergeant Kumbi and Constable Jacobs from the Barkly West Crime Prevention unit with the assistance of the community traced one of the suspects after numerous attempts to find them failed.”

She said the incident took place on October 1 at about 2.30am.

“The 42-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court, while the search continues for the remaining three suspects.”

The Provincial Head of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units , Brigadier Nicky Mills commended the members apprehending the suspect and the community for their assistance.
