A 32-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon after allegedly damaging an ATM.
A 32-YEAR-old suspect is expected to appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon after an ATM was damaged during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said damage of about R70,000 was caused to the Absa Bank ATM in Kathu at around midnight on November 17, when an unknown man allegedly threw a brick at the screen.
“Kathu Crime Prevention group 2 members, under the command of Sergeant Ben Eiman, checked the CCTV footage and managed to identify the suspect,” said Gamieldien.
She added that the members searched for the suspect and found him in Rietbok Street on November 17 at about 7.30pm.
“The 32-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for malicious damage to property. He is expected to appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Gamieldien.
“The police will continue to clamp down on all criminal activity during this period,” she added.
