SOL PLAATJE Municipality said that the power supply at the Aviva Road mini sub-station was restored at about 2am on Thursday morning.

This follows after the mini sub-station and cables had to replaced following an explosion at the sub-station on Wednesday morning.

Municipal spokesperson Thoko Riet said on Thursday morning that two of the three electrical employees who were injured during the incident are in a stable condition in hospital, while the third has already been discharged.

“The electrical foreman, Faik Adams, is in a Bloemfontein hospital with serious burn wounds but he is in a stable condition. One of the apprentices, Wafieka Camieldien, is admitted to a local hospital in Kimberley with mild injuries. The other apprentice, Pearl Molefe, sustained no injuries but was treated for shock and will have to undergo therapy for the trauma she witnessed. We wish them all a speedy recovery,” Riet said.

She commended the municipal team that “worked around the clock” to replace the mini sub-station, to restore electricity to Hillcrest and surrounding areas.

“We commend the team for their dedication.”
