SUB-CONTRACTORS who have been contracted for a paving project in Iris Street in De Beershoogte, Barkly West, removed some of the bricks this week as they have not been paid.

The acting municipal manager at Dikgatlong Municipality, Bakie Tsinyane, said that Moke Construction was appointed for the upgrading of Iris Street.

“Moke Construction then appointed sub-contractors to do the paving work. Paving work was completed but the municipality, through our consulting engineer, identified minor issues that needed to be rectified,” said Tsinyane.

She explained that payment for the paving was made to the main contractor.

“A retention fee is held back for instances where the contractor has to rectify any identified issues that do not comply with the standards.”

Tsinyane confirmed that the sub-contractors removed the paving as they had not received full payment from Moke Construction.

“Moke Construction has agreed to pay the sub-contractors by the end of the week. The contractor, Moke Construction, is still, however, responsible for fixing the removed paving.”
