AN ARMED robbery took place at Fei Xiang Trading (Pty) Ltd Wholesalers in Old Main Road in the Kimberley CBD on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said they saw three men inside a silver Volkswagen Polo with a Free State number plate parked outside the premises shortly before the incident.

“They were sitting in the car drinking water and smoking. The suspects approached the store owner as he was about to climb into his vehicle. They were not wearing balaclavas although they covered their faces with their caps. One of the suspects was carrying a firearm and a shot was fired when it fell onto the ground. They grabbed the store owner’s carry bag, which appeared to contain cash, and sped off in the car,” said the eyewitnesses.

SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dikeledi Gopane said the police in Kimberley were investigating a case of robbery with a firearm that occurred on December 4 at about 8.55am.

“Two unknown males approached the (store) owner and one of the suspects pointed a firearm at him, grabbed his bag and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash,” said Gopane.

She added that no injuries were reported and no arrests had been made yet.

“Police investigations are continuing,” Gopane stated.
