IN A CONTINUED effort to combat the illegal drug trade, the Springbok Public Order Police unit made a significant arrest. Members of C-Platoon apprehended a 41-year-old man in possession of mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R30,000.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock, the arrest followed a tip-off. Officers conducted surveillance at the Engen Garage on Voortrekker Road in Springbok. The suspect was observed retrieving a bag from a trash bin and hiding it in a tree near the N14 bridge.
Kock reported that the police moved in swiftly and discovered the mandrax tablets inside the bag. The suspect was arrested and charged with drug possession. He is scheduled to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon.
Kock concluded by saying that the police are urging the community to participate in the “Rate Our Service” online survey to help improve their service to the public. They also encourage residents to continue providing information on criminal activities to aid in the removal of drugs from the streets.
