MORE than 600 face masks, as well as an extensive supply of sanitisers and hygiene products, were donated to Kenhardt High School by Aries Solar Power following the reopening of the school to grade 7 and 12 pupils earlier last month.

Each pupil received an allocation of three masks.

According to Aries Solar Power, the initiative was aimed at helping to ensure the safety of the school’s pupils and its staff.

Kenhardt High School principal Deon Keffers expressed relief for the assistance as many pupils, staff and parents were apprehensive about the return to school.

“Some parents were afraid of sending their children to school but now I can show them that we can help keep their children and educators safe,” Keffers said.

The solar plant stated that it was also working with the district Department of Health to co-ordinate the delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies to the Kenhardt Health Centre.

The arrangement forms part of its socio-economic development programme that has been redirected to focus on Covid-19 relief and community support.

“This included 1 000 disposable medical gowns; 1 000 medical gloves; 500 medical goggles; 1 950 much-needed N95 medical masks; and 3 000 units of waterless hand sanitisers,” the Solar plant stated.

“Keeping clinic staff in Kenhardt protected is essential, especially if health care personnel are to stay safe as the Covid cases pick up in rural Northern Cape towns,” Tsholofelo Moote, economic development practitioner for Aries Solar Power, stated.
