A young mother and her seven-year-old son lost their lives in a shanty fire in Ritchie during the early hours of Friday morning.
SOL Plaatje municipality will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a young mother and her seven-year-old son who died after a fire ravaged their shanty in Pelindaba, Motswedimosa, Ritchie during the early hours of Friday morning.
During the incident Saul Fluks and the couple’s four-year-old daughter – “Vroutjie” Fluks sustained severe burn injuries.
Neighbours indicated that they were unable to extinguish the fire, as the water supply had been switched off on Thursday night while emergency personnel had to be woken from their slumber.
Community members stated that by the time the fire brigade arrived, Hannalie van Wyk, 26, and her son Alexandra Fluks had already died.
Spokesperson for Sol Plaatje municipality Sello Matsie said the municipality would investigate the allegations.
