SOL PLAATJE Municipality has decided to suspend nightly water supply interruptions for now, following the good rains experienced over the last few days.

The interruptions followed major repair work done by the municipality in mid-November, which had necessitated a city-wide water shutdown for several days.

Municipal spokesperson Sello Matsie said the good rains have helped the Newton Reservoir to achieve optimum levels.

“Before and after such major repairs, we implement nightly interruptions to increase our holding capacity at Newton Reservoir to ensure that we can manage the water resources when we resupply the city,” explained Matsie.

“For now, aided by the good rains, we have been able to achieve optimum levels at the Newton Reservoir that can allow us to suspend the nightly water supply interruptions.”

Matsie assured residents that the municipality would communicate timeously, warning of any probability of the nightly interruptions being resumed should water levels drop.

“These measures are part of managing the water supply and demand, especially for our high-lying areas,” said Matsie.
