Sol Plaatje municipality on Friday said that it had made inroads in addressing service delivery backlogs.

Spokesperson for Sol Plaatje Municipality Sello Matsie said that over the last few weeks, the municipality had eradicated all 900 sewer blockages that were reported.

“Teams are now dealing mainly with new complaints or recurring ones. A total of 86 high mast lights were fixed where only about seven are still outstanding while 51 stolen cables were replaced impacting on 789 street lights which are now lit.”

He stated that water teams had dealt with 142 burst water pipes while extra teams were employed to repair leaks on the pipeline.

“This will have a positive impact on the accuracy of billing. We still have to finalise the intervention plan on the major leaks that face us as a collective.”

Matsie added that teams were on standby to assist with flash floods during the rainy season.
