THE SOL Plaatje Municipality’s salary bill has risen to R679 million, as officials receive a 7.36 percent salary increase.

At a recent Sol Plaatje City Council meeting, councillors were informed of the salary increases, which will be implemented for permanent, as well as temporary, casual and contracted employees.

The increases are in line with the Collective Agreement on Salaries and Wages.

It was pointed out in the meeting that the budget assumptions, made during the budget process, had taken note of inflation in the last quarter of 2017, as well as looking at the percentile adjustments during wage negotiation. A 7.36 percent salary increase was budgeted for.

In terms of the ministerial determination, the daily rate for Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers was also increased from R78.86 per day to R83.96 from November 1 last year and this tariff will apply until the next determination is issued.

All permanently employed and contract, casual and temporary workers’ salaries were adjusted by 7.36 percent in terms of the guidelines provided by the South African Local Government Association (Salga) for 2017/18.

“The salary packages of the municipal manager and the senior managers directly accountable to the municipal manager, have also been adjusted by 7.36 percent on their total remuneration packages, with effect from July 1.”

The implementation of the 7.36 percent increase will up the total budgeted employee costs to R679 381 for 2017/18.
