THE executive mayor of the Sol Plaatje Municipality, Patrick Mabilo, is still awaiting his results after undergoing tests for Covid-19 on Thursday last week.

He will remain in self-isolation until he receives his results.

Spokesperson for his office, Persome Oliphant, confirmed on Tuesday that Mabilo was still awaiting his results. She added that he remained “committed to sharing it publicly”.

His office in the Civic Centre is still closed and will, according to Oliphant, remain so until his results have been received.

The staff are reportedly working from home.

Oliphant stated on Friday last week that Mabilo had gone for a Covid-19 test because he was not feeling well. “He made the decision that it was best to be tested.”

She said that he had not been into his office at the Civic Centre since Wednesday, when he started to feel unwell.

“His office is currently closed and will remain closed until his results have been received and then a decision will be made on the way forward,” Oliphant added.

“The mayor has indicated that he will make his results known to the public once he receives them,” she added.

She also confirmed that another councillor had also gone for Covid-19 swabs and was awaiting his results.

On Wednesday last week, Mabilo attended a Sol Plaatje city council meeting with other councillors and officials at the City Hall, to approve the 2020/21 budget.

One councillor, who was present, pointed out that while social distancing was observed during the meeting and everyone was wearing masks, the microphone was handed around to those who wished to speak. “I did not see if it was sterilised between speakers,” he added.
