THE SOL Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley has announced a week-long nightly water supply interruption due to a malfunctioning pump at Riverton.

The interruptions will occur from 8pm to 5am daily, starting on August 4 and ending on Sunday, August 11.

Municipal spokesperson Thabo Mothibi explained that the water levels at the Newton Reservoir have dropped significantly due to one of the five raw water abstraction pumps, which draws water from the Vaal River, being out of operation.

“A new pump will be installed this week. Once the desired water production volumes have been achieved at the purification plants, the reservoirs will be replenished to full carrying capacity,” Mothibi stated.

He added that the municipality will provide updates on the installation process as they become available. Residents are advised to plan accordingly for the nightly water cuts.
