THE SOL Plaatje Municipality has confirmed that water cuts to the city would be implemented from last night.

Water will be cut nightly from 8pm to 4am in an attempt to restore the levels of the dams at the Newton Reservoir.

Sol Plaatje municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, said yesterday that while there were no problems with the pumping of the water from Riverton, or the pipes to Kimberley, the dams at the reservoir were below capacity.

“They are not at critical levels but we would like to ensure that all the dams are at optimum levels going forward.”

The nightly cuts will continue until the levels have been restored.

“We will not cut water in the day in order to minimise the inconvenience to residents,” Matsie said.
