THE SOL Plaatje municipality on Monday confirmed that the 600mm water supply line to Roodepan was successfully repaired on Sunday night and “the supply to all Roodepan areas was restored”.

Municipal spokesperson Sello Matsie said pressure on the network is, however, gradually increasing as the network was empty.

Several areas in the Sol Plaatje municipal area started accessing water from their taps on Saturday afternoon.

“Water supply from Newton Reservoir commenced at 4am as planned,” said Matsie.

Meanwhile, repair work to the 600mm line behind Homevale is progressing and is expected to be completed late on Monday afternoon.

“Areas affected by the said repairs include portions of Galeshewe, Greater Number Two, Homevale, Homestead and surrounding suburbs.”

Matsie said that water tankers are being dispatched to the affected areas.

He assured residents that the water levels at Newton Reservoir remain steady.

He added, however, that they will be implementing nightly shutdowns to increase the water reserves at Newton Reservoir.
