SOL PLAATJE municipality has cautioned motorists to use alternative routes as repairs are under way on a burst pipe on the corner of Kekewich Drive and Lowndes Street in Monument Heights.

The area has been cordoned while a municipal team works on fixing the burst pipe.

Residents in the area have also warned of possible water interruptions or low water pressure in some parts of Monument Heights.

Municipal spokesperson Thoko Riet said the pipe burst was experienced at around lunchtime on Tuesday, resulting in water flooding down the road.

“The municipality cordoned off the area after the front tyre of a vehicle got stuck in the water-filled hole. There were no damages reported on the vehicle,” said Riet.

She explained that the burst was due to the strong water pressure after the water was switched back on following repairs that were conducted at another spot in the same area.

Riet said the municipality cannot confirm how long the repairs will take.
