Seven or more suspects, armed with knives and guns, entered the supermarket and threatened the owners, demanding money.
SIX PEOPLE have been arrested after a Galeshewe supermarket was robbed by a group of armed men earlier this week.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock, said yesterday that the robbery took place on Tuesday at around 5pm.
“Seven or more suspects, armed with knives and guns, entered the supermarket and threatened the owners, demanding money. A shot was fired inside the premises before the suspects fled with a substantial amount of money and cellphones,” said Kock.
The Northern Cape SAPS Trio Crimes unit, Crime Intelligence unit, Flying Squad and Galeshewe Visible Policing unit followed up on information received and arrested six men at around 2am yesterday morning in Galeshewe.
One 9mm firearm, ammunition, 23 cellphones and cash was retrieved.
“Two of the cellphone are iPhones belonging to the supermarket owners.”
According to Kock, the suspects should be appearing in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court soon. “More arrests are expected and the investigation is continuing.”
