Seven suspects will apply for bail for Jerusalem shack murders on Friday.

SEVEN suspects will appear in the Magistrate Court Kimberley on Friday, January 7, in connection with the death of two men in an alleged incident involving mob justice at the Jerusalem shanties in Roodepan.

The men, aged 23 and 33 years, were allegedly beaten to death after they gained entry into a shanty by bending the steel door, during the early hours of Monday morning.

After they were interrogated, the deceased were beaten with sjamboks.

They succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead on the scene.

Lerato Park residents on Tuesday tried to prevent the “vigilante” suspects from being arrested and called for intervention from the Minister of Police General Bheki Cele.

They believed that the police had left them destitute when they were robbed of their belongings and their homes were broken into.

Residents stated that the murders could have been avoided, had the necessary action been taken.

Galeshewe SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Bashoabile Kale stated that the detectives in Roodepan arrested six suspects in connection to the murder of the two men at Jerusalem shacks on Tuesday.

“The seventh suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning. All seven suspects appeared in the Magistrate Court Kimberley. The case was remanded until January 7, for a formal bail application.”
