Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Mosimaneotsile Letsapa said the group of men allegedly assaulted the two victims after they accused them of stealing a cellphone from one of the group members.
“It is alleged that the suspects, who were driving a blue Chevrolet Trailblazer, fetched the two victims, aged 22 and 24 years old, from their homes and took them to the Deben dumping site where they allegedly assaulted them,” said Letsapa.
“According to information, the victims were accused of stealing a cellphone from one of the suspects. It is further alleged that the victims were also burnt.”
Letsapa said that the vehicle that was used during the alleged crime was also confiscated for further investigation.
Letsapa added that the arrest of the suspects was welcomed.
“The John Taolo Gaetsewe district commissioner, Major-General Jonny Besnaar, issued a stern warning that anyone who takes the law into their own hands will face the full might of the law. General Besnaar further urged communities to report all criminal activities to the police in order for justice to prevail.”
